FRIDAY COCKTAIL - THE HURRICANE!

The Hurricane became popular at Pat O'Brien's bar in 1940's New Orleans. According to legend it debuted at the 1939 World's Fair and the rest is history. O'Brien created the heavy "rummed" version to get rid of a large stock of rum his Southern distributors made him buy.

2 oz light rum

2 oz dark rum

2 oz passion fruit

1 oz orange juice

juice of half a lime

Mix all in a blender with ice and - of course - serve in a big Hurricane glass!

STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

ENJOY!

FRIDAY COCKTAIL - 3 SHOT FRIDAY!

I have noticed a new trend in the bar scene lately..that in itself is scary...remember the peanut butter and jelly shot? Bartenders on their slow moments tend to look at "the inventory" and start mixing concoctions in shot glasses to try to come up with the flavors we all remember. So at one of our recent visits to a local joint...we got an Oatmeal Cookie shot, Green Tea shot and the best of all Key Lime Pie shot....here goes..pretty much the ingredients are equal amounts of each liquor unless listed, but adjust to your taste....

Oatmeal Cookie

1 oz Butter schnapps

1 oz Hot Dam cinnamon schnapps

1 oz Baileys

* tastes jut like an oatmeal cookie----seriously!

Green Tea

1 oz Jameson Whisky

hint of sour apple pucker

1 oz gingerale

* a little heavy but Rachel you would love this

Key Lime Pie

1 oz Midori

1 oz Vanilla Vodka

1 oz Malibu Rum

hint of Rose's lime juice

squirt of whipped cream (YES)

*My Favorite...tastes just like the pie...could drink a whole glass of this...maybe I did????

3 SHOT FRIDAY!

FRIDAY COCKTAIL - HURRICANE FOR MICHELLE

Here we are...in Maine...waiting for EARL. Michelle wants a great Friday cocktail delivered to her on Beacon Street...what better than the original Hurricane! (and no I am not delivering)
The Hurricane was invented during World War II at Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans and was named after the shape of a hurricane lamp. Pat O'Brien's is still open today in New Orleans' famous French Quarters and they sell their original Hurricane cocktail mix at the bar. You can also buy a hurricane cocktail at Pat O'Brien's and walk Bourbon Street with it and take it into other bars up and down the French Quarter. Hurricanes are the drink of choice during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Dave has had a few of these at Pat O'B's!!!!!
Her we go with the original recipe at Pat O'B's!!!!!
4 oz dark rum
4 oz passion fruit syrup
1 oz fresh lemon juice
an orange slice, lime wedge and a maraschino cherry
crushed ice
mix in a shaker...pour in a hurricane glass...serve with a straw!
WAITING FOR EARL WITH MICHELLE
ENJOY!

FRIDAY'S COCKTAIL - DARK AND SLIGHTLY OVERCAST

Again a Boston Globe suggestion....The Dark and Slightly Overcast libation can be slowly summer-sipped at:
Savant Project
1625 Tremont Street
Boston
Manager Maureen Hauteniemi says "All the cool hipster bars have Dark and Stormies, this is our take on the standard drink". A Dark and Stormy is rum and ginger beer.
Recipe:
Peach-infused Rum
Ginger Beer
Lime garnish
In a glass with ice, pour in ginger beer about 3/4 up the glass, top with peach rum and garnish with lime. Very refreshing and sweet.
Bottom Line: Smooth sailing. The peach flavor plays nice with the ginger beer for a subtle twist on the classic seaside sipper.
MY BOTTOM LINE: I only know one person who likes ginger beer, which by the way is not beer. I am wondering if he or Kathy is reading this. I am sure he would love this since he used to drink rum and cokes...need I say more...(yuk!). I am only going with this since it IS Friday and it IS cocktail hour(s) for ME!
ENJOY!

FRIDAY COCKTAIL DAY - MAI TAI

Summer is here!!!!!! So are the endless array of summer cocktails. The Mai Tai has been around between 60-70 years depending on who you believe was the inventor.
Trader Vic's Restaurant in Oakland claims they invented it in 1944. Trader Vic's offers Polynesian-Style cuisine and claims a Polynesian guest helped name the concoction.
However, Don the Beachcomer's claims to have originally created it in 1933.
The Mai Tai became so popular in the 50's and 60's that almost all the "tiki-themed" restaurants and bars served them.
Of course the Mai Tai was very popular in Elvis Presley's movie "Blue Hawaii".
Today, you can travel to any tropical location and find a version of this recipe on their menu.
Ingredients:
2 parts light rum
1 part dark rum
2 oz fresh pineapple juice
2 oz fresh orange juice
1 oz Cointreau or any orange liqueur
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
A pineapple wedge, cherry, sprig of mint and maybe a tropical umbrella as garnish
Mix all ingredients and serve over ice and garnish. Be careful they are soooo tasty you may over-indulge.
Happy Friday!
ENJOY!
